So I just heard you on CJAD. What should be
brought into the discussion is August of 1997.
Princess Diana dies, and the station goes into
near continuous coverage, right from the start
(and if I recall, the start was a Saturday
night when Laurie and Olga were on).
About the Friday, Tommy Schnurmacher breaks
into the still continuing "coverage" of her
death, to announce that Mother Theresa had
died. After a few words of that, it went
something like "oh, and now we'll go back to
our discussion of Princess Diana".
I recall a few people at CJAD said afterwards
that they were going to avoid tabloids, because
they felt they were at least partly responsible
for the woman's death.
Yet, it never really crossed their mind that
they were part of it all?
That near continuous discussion of Princess
Diana a decade ago was both a reflection of
an interest, and fuel for the interest. I
don't know where one started and the other left
off. It all just bored me.
So yes, it seemed pretty silly for Olga and Laurie
go be going on about this today, when they themselves
made such a big issue of the royals a decade ago.
