St. Catherine in the 1940s

This photo appears to be on the north side of St. Catherine just west of Eaton's in the 1940s, or so the Rossy sign in the background would suggest.
But upon closer inspection it's possibly a Classy Formal Wear sign in the background, which would put this on Park Avenue just south of Laurier (west side).
We obtained this snap from Paul Olioff, a Montrealer with a keen eye for the city. It features his father with the pencil thin moustache. Many thanks for the contribution.

  2. That heavy institutional façade doesn't fit on Park Avenue. It suggests St. James Street to me.

I would agree...I have many pictures from Park in the 50's, 60's, etc...and I do not see where that type of facade would have been. This must be a street like St. James....
