More photos from the Jeremy Taylor '63 ish collection (thx 2 Martin MTLTV)

Telephones on the Move was an 11 pound portable phone that fit in any briefcase. It came out in 1969 thanks to Jack Gorry's MLS Melabs, whose boss predicted that miniaturization and ..uh.. towerization would allow people to have pocket sized portable phones by 1974. This photo was taken , as were the others, by Jeremy Taylor in Montreal, so the phones must have been on display here.

  2. Early portable telephones?

Radio pagers and robots, etc. were predicted as far back as the 1930s and see the amazingly accurate Gazette article of Feb. 25, 1956, page 3 entitled "Electronics Will Change Your Life" which predicts VCRs, electronic mail, and miniature pocket 2-way radios--which is what cellphones essentially are. The articles's associated cartoon apparently didn't consider the "off" switch! ;-)
