Outdoor shutters like the ones on the windows of the corner building are still common in France but I've never seen any here during my lifetime. I wonder if they simply turned out to be unsuitable for our winters.

ReplyDeleteOutdoor window shutters still exist on many homes in Westmount and elsewhere on posh residences although they may be more for show than functional.
ReplyDeleteAs for awnings over shop windows and entrances, they are still around too but usually made with more weatherproof material than canvas.
