Ultra Light Club gets booze license suspended

The Ultra Light Club, a well-known downtown dance club on Crescent has lost its liquor license for a 20-day period due to a long list of infractions over the years that mainly centre around over-aggressive bouncers.
The club has a liquor license at 2020 Crescent under the name Entertainment Emporium inc. since June 2, 1997. It's called Club Extreme but somehow changed its name without liquor board permission under owner Truong Nguyen Huu.
These are the incidents brought up in the recent RACJ hearings, there were surely others, as this list ends abruptly, so we don't know what the situation has been since these were racked up.
Violence: -Police had to intervene onto several fights, an officer was assaulted, one detained escaped, etc, August 7, 2005

-A waitress told police that she was attacked and injured on 8 September 2007.
-Police had to deal with a fight outside at 3:30 a.m on 16 September 2007
-Customers complained that they were hit by club doormen on 3 February 2008
-Another fight outside, police came on 9 February 2008.
-A customer complained of being attacked by someone with a syringe inside the bar on 17 February 2008
-Someone complained to cops of being assaulted by a doorman on 21 April 2008.
-Bar patron complains of having been pushed down the stairs by a doorman on 29 May 2008
-Police were alerted of a fight between customers and doormen on 15 June 2008. The doormen were allegedly using batons and flashlights to beat on the customers.
-A doorman reportedly sexually assaulted a customer in the bar on November 8, 2008
-Police returned to deal with complaints of doormen beating on patrons on 22 February 2009, 15 March 2009 (customer also complained that the doorman stole his stuff) on 5 April 2009, 3 October 2009 and 29 January 2010.
Theft: Someone complained of having his cell phone stole at the club on 11 August 2007, another said his wallet was grabbed on 18 November 2007
Boozing: A girl was found heavily intoxicated outside the club, unable to walk or talk on 10 October 2005. Doormen tossed a drunk into a snowbank on 23 December 2008. He was brought to hospital and was semi-comatose upon arrival.
There were a few other small, common contraventions: fruit flies were found in the booze, unsanctioned bottles were found a few times, a street gang member was spotted inside the club in 2005 and the club put on various specials that were technically against booze board rules.

Remember when all this was par for the course all along Crescent Street every night of the week?

What happened to this town? Now you can go down Crescent on a Saturday night an be guaranteed a parking spot.

  2. For over 15 years now we've been turning slowly into another Toronto.

  3. Is this what is considered by today's society as a "good night out"?

Seemingly everyone who enters a bar has a concealed weapon of some kind, and is either looking for trouble or ready for any.

    Better off partying at home.

Check your coat and soul at the door... It's a horrible place, ugly girls wearing too little and a bunch of wannabe be gangsters.

The "party" has moved from Cresent to St-Laurent in recent years.. Cresent is a shadow of it's former self. I lived on Coloniale/Duluth on the Plateau and it's were all the "clubbers" would park. I loved the banging on my street level apartment door or window at during the wee hours of the morning.

That being said I did frequent this place when it was Extremes/System. The 2nd level would play electronic music and was actually a good place to go. The atmosphere changed when they decided to cut the hole in the 2nd floor.

  7. It's impossible to run a nightclub / dance club without these kinds of problems because all manner of douche bags are attracted to them like moths to a flame.

  8. When Mayor Drapeau passed a law requiring night clubs to close at 2 a.m., there were many complaints.

Perhaps he knew something after all?

I spent a few years in Vancouver where the bars closed at 1 a.m.

The fights there were worse than anything that has ever happened in Montreal.

A friend of mine owned a bar, and they used to push everyone out the door, then grab chairs and sit by the window to watch the battle royale.

The riot squad was needed almost every night to stop the violence.

Eventually Vancouver decided to let bars stay open until 4 a.m., so people leave when they want to and gangs aren't forced into confronting each other

Ultra is a spot for kids nowadays, its a place for mostly Dawson pups to hang out on the weekends. They`re right about the bouncers though, they can be very aggressive but then again thats how it is in any nightclub. Thats why you either need to roll deep or go somewhere you know the owners or security. Funny thing is, I was passing by there 2 weeks ago (outside) and there was a mini-highschool brawl that I started to film. Some dude that worked in the club asked me to delete the video and almost tried to stop me from walking away. What a joker.
