When cabbies kill

Cabbie Christian Vallieres, 23. killed Albert Element, 40, in a cab-fare scuffle
1713 Plessis where Element died
A drunken Albert Element hopped into Christian Vallieres cab on the evening of January 12, 1978 to be brought to his run-down home at 1713-A Plessis in the South-Central area of Montreal. Element was rude and heaped relentless verbal abuse on the driver, who just ignored him.
But once at his destination Element said he would not pay for the ride.
Vallieres threatened to call the cops whereupon Element said he was only kidding and then invited Vallieres inside his apartment, which one can only access by the rear.
The two quarreled again inside and Element pulled a knife on Vallieres, who was not large. Vallieres, who was from Longueuil, managed to turn the knife on Element and jammed it in his throat, killing him.
