March 1984. Big rock act arrives in town to start a North American tour. A crowd of between 1,500 to 3,000 fans were there to meet 'em. It all seems very unlikely now. Who can guess the act?
Answer: The answer is that pop music in 1984 is clearly hard to explain. The big attraction was cross-dressing Brit pop star
Boy George and his band Culture Club who attracted the
enthusiastic crowd that day, perhaps the liveliest-ever day at usually-moribund Mirabel Airport. The band has their first hit two years earlier and their signature song Karma Chameleon was from 1983. Their 1984 album flopped and their glory died down. But their star shone bright on this day as a police officer reportedly suffered a heart attack in the ruckus. Their rabid fame did not last, of course as they were quickly discarded into the rubbish bin of pop stardom. At the time I knew a young guy in London who told me he was good friends with the drummer, a rich kid who apparently did not take the group too seriously. The band recently attempted an ill-fated reunion tour which ended before it began, sorta sad doc

“Boy George” - well if you had not revealed the answer, I would never have guessed. None of my acquaintances ever remember hearing about this. What on earth sparked you to come up with this story?
