Regarding the Verdun Auditorium, is it really justifiable to spend $26 million to "upgrade" the place when other, more important infrastructure projects have been neglected for far too long?
How can they be certain that major events will presumably be interested in using this particular facility when there are now so many others to compete with it? Didn't the Montreal Canadiens abandon using it as a training area for good reason? What is the story on that?
Why not instead clean up the landfilled, waterfront area directly behind this building since for decades it has been left to become overgrown, essentially a shoddy pathway and an unleashed dog-run with no fences, benches, or picnic tables.
I'd like to see some sort of bridge built to Nuns Island from that spot with that money instead.
I don't know the root of this money deal but Verdun was probably offered this cash and simply said yes sure we'll take it, possibly from some provincial program, although I haven't read up on it.
I've never been entirely convinced of stewardship of that borough's administration, as there seems an unusually high turnover rate over the last few years. One of the councillors is an avowed former white supremacist.
