St. Henri Uniform/Pat Shearing |
St. Henri Uniform at 2671 Notre Dame W. has sold its last rugged set of polyester overalls, as confirmed by a message on its answering machine.
The store was opened by Cote St. Luc resident Morris Kimel and his brother Louie Kimel who moved into the premises of the old Family Department Store in 1955.
The two previously owned St. Henri Men's Wear across the street from 1949.
The new store kept the name for several years before making the name switch about a decade later.
Coolopolis interns and simian staff have not yet reached ownership to find why it closed and the answering machine message offers no explanation, although it is noted that Morris' first wife Ellen died earlier this year, as did son Ian. Morris had remarried to Sandy Rosenoff.
The Atwater Market-adjacent area has changed greatly since the building was put up in 1949, with such trendy spots as Mamie Clafoutis and the Drinkerie sitting nearby.
Morris Kimel is listed in city tax records as owner of the property, which has a municipal evaluation of $780,000.
That's sad news for sure. My first job ever (security guard) required me to buy my uniform from that shop some 30ish years ago and having lived fairly close to that store for years, I've gone by it an infinite amount of times and it always made me think of my youth.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what they'll be doing with that building. Probably convert it into condos? I'm shocked at its assessment!
According to my previous bar pricing research, a beer still costs about $5.50 or so at such places.
ReplyDeleteI bought a pair of rubber boots there for my job at a nearby brewery about a year ago. They had an excellent selection of belt buckles!
ReplyDeleteThe old supplier of Uniform & Cap accessories to ST.HENRI UNIFORMES was M/S Hand-Work Company, www.handwork.com.pk
