Montrealers were saddened by the departure of the delightful and civic-minded Montreal hockey star P.K. Subban.
Subban pledged $10 million to a local children's hospital while entertaining hockey and non-hockey fans of his adoptive hometown.
Montrealers should honour his positive legacy by renaming Jacques Parizeau Park in his honour.

This past season P.K scored 6 times. Over 40 NHL defencemen had more goals than he did. He put the puck in the net on 3.6% of his shots. He was paid 1.5 million dollars per goal. He quarterbacked the power play which was ranked 25th out of 30 teams. P.K averaged over 26 minutes of ice time per game. The Canadiens didn't make the playoffs. When he got traded not one of his teammates complained about it. The 10 million dollar pledge is a pledge not a gift. So far 1 million has been raised. How is he going to raise the rest of it when he is in Nashville for 9 months of the year?
ReplyDeleteYou bought the hype like a lot of other Montreal fans.
10,000 Canadian soldiers died or were wounded at Vimy Ridge in WW1 and some Montreal politicians decide to rename it after a separatist? Now you want the park renamed after P.K. He already has his name on a hospital wall. Why not go all the way? How about The P.K. Oratory? Joe's been dead for years. How about The Ponte P.K. Bridge or The Place Ville Subban?
P.K. promoted the hell out of himself in Montreal. The reality is that he was way down the list of Montreal's great hockey players. Way down the list!
I kind of doubt that you will post what I wrote here.
Colin you sound like someone who can speak politically incorrect. Very refreshing!
ReplyDeleteYou are joking, right?
ReplyDeleteThe way things are going with renaming stuff...in a few years we'll be asked about a new name for the city itself. Enough renamings.
ReplyDeletePK Who??? The best defense player is Shea Weber
