Sad news from the world of old time West End Gang circles as Donald Matticks, 57, has reportedly suffered a stroke that has currently left him paralyzed on one side of his body.
His long-term prognosis is currently undetermined but all wish him the best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Matticks was raised in the midst of the Matticks faction of Montreal's West End Gang as the son of Gerry Matticks, the only still-living member of the legendary 12-member family from Goose Village.
Donald Matticks had been toiling as a checker at the Port of Montreal but in 2005 a judge put an end to that career, by sentencing him to eight years behind bars for his role in Gerry's hashish and cocaine importation schemes.
Parole board officials acknowledged that Donald was likely to re-offend but freed him nonetheless after serving 15 months, one-eighth of his sentence, due to the non-violent nature of his crimes.
In 2012 Donald Matticks was returned to jail for four more months after being found drinking and consuming cocaine at a party, a violation of parole conditions.
Donald Matticks is known as to be sociable and outgoing and occasionally generous to certain causes. He is always eager to defend his family's legacy, asserting that they filled a role in the underworld virtually without violence.
Matticks makes no secret of his solid financial fortunes and actively embraces the mythology of the Irish underworld. He is not thought to be involved in any significant schemes.
Donald's father Gerry, meanwhile, has been dealing with serious health issues for some time as has his cousin Brian, the son of Richie Matticks.
Interesting story…thanks
