Paul Payne in 1989
Paul Payne, 55, opened the door to a hail of bullets at his home on Airlie St near Behrens in LaSalle, Wednesday at about 1 am.

One or more gunmen apparently shot Payne five times, according to a report. Payne did not survive.

Payne was the father of four but it is believed none of them lived with him at the home.

Payne was best known for a tragic Feb 15,1992 incident where he hit his girlfriend's Kelly MacCormack's two-year-old son  Scott MacCormack in the abdomen, causing fatal injury.

Payne wsa kept in prison during his trial for 14 months. He was found guilty of manslaughter in April 1992 and sentenced to two years less a day in prison in May 1993.

Payne was living in Point St. Charles at the time and the incident so upset local crime lord Richie Matticks that Matticks reportedly put a hit out on Paul Payne, leading Payne to have to sneak out of the Do Drop Inn bar on Wellington in Point St. Charles  on one occasion to avoid a bad fate.

Payne is believed to have committed a series of other crimes, including armed robbery.

Payne was originally fromn Little Burgundy and attended a special classes as a child and had a half-sister.

  3. He'll be missed by so many. Great man who did horrible shit to only horrible people who deserved it. This is so full of lies. No-one gets manslaughter for punching a baby to death. He saved the baby's life by preforming CPR unfortunately he did not know that cpr for a child is not the same as for an adult (which was shown and proven in court).
A good man is not someone who is harmless, a good man is someone who knows what absolute carnage he is capable of and controls himself like Paul did.
Rest in peace Paul Pitbull Payne, so many miss you and a legend never dies
