If you get your wine at the fill-your-own-bottle government booze outlets you've suffered stigmatization cuz their wine had no label. You'd feel chintzy if you pulled one of these suckers out. May as well wear a barrel on skid row. But it was still worth it cuz you'd pay like $6 to $10 for vino that would otherwise cost twice that price. You'd also have to go through the corking ritual which involved some dexterity and could be quite dangerous if you were drunk from all the free sample sips you'd nipped. Luckily the provincial government oppressors now offer screw top bottles and you can slap your own label on that they supply at the stand. The stickers are a pain to take off if you want to reuse the bottle, you'll probably just end up slapping a new sticker over the old one.
Where on earth are these miraculous places? DIY wine labels? That rocks! Or you could be all Italian old-skool and serve it label-free and claim you made it yourself, which might turn people off and thus leave more for you.
ReplyDeleteThere's 2 in Mtl. One at the Central Market which is north of highway 40 between the two 15s and the other - the one I go to - is in the east end, take Notre Dame, well past Pie Nine and follow the directions to the Lafontaine Tunnel, it's just before you take that right turn.

That Muscadet is looking a little on the ambrée side. But good for you.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly better than the profiteering bozos at Remy Pannier (why the SAQ carries them I have no idea) who with a straight face offer a wine for $13+ that is at best dodgy Muscadet.
Chereau Carré is much better for the same price.
