Bedbugs are said to be spreading fast in this city. Exterminators charge $400 to steam a room. Too expensive. So you can rent the Polti Mondiale and kill bugs and their eggs with hot air much cheaper. You can rent these machines - which cost over $2,000 -at Simplex Tool Rental shops, $46 weekend rate. It blasts dryish steam at a high pressure into cracks and everywhere. When you're done, go around the room and put caulking everywhere you see a crack around the baseboards and quarter rounds. You can also use it to defrost a freezer, clean clean your oven or blast away stubborn worn-in dirt from the floor. It takes some time to heat up but stays hot for a long time. Simplex has a strong demand for these machines so they can be hard to rent. Other companies, such as Lou-Tec and Gamma, don't even rent them, which is a shame.
where can u rent these machines from
ReplyDeleteTank you so much! I have a small starting colony of these little vampires.... Ive been looking for answers for a couple of days now as I would rather not use pesticides and professional steaming is way out of my budget. My landlord is away on vacations and hasn<nt been helpfull :( This is great and acurate info!
ReplyDeleteI should mention that I would also recommend you go to reno depot and buy one of those plastic cannisters of anti bug power and just sprinkle it everywhere, empty the whole thing all over the floor and leave it for a few days. Sure it'll look like shit but assuming you're not holding a dinner party over the next few days, you can live with it, it's not toxic. That powder causes bugs to suffer cuts to their bodies and kills them as they walk through it.
ReplyDeleteI got a spray bottle of flying and crawling insect killer (green heart homecare)... it has chemicals but less toxic i guess. I vacuumed everywhere, bagged pretty much everything i could, started steaming and will try to steam twice then the spray! Tomorow morning laudry... sleeping on a plastic camping matress in the living room. I haven't had a new bite in two days.A lot a work but worth it if they dont come back... ;p Will keep you posted in a couple of weeks if im still clean! Thanx again...
ReplyDeleteRenting a steamer is a great idea. Seal all the cracks in the baseboards.
ReplyDelete**Buy food grade DIATOMACEOUS EARTH and use it in homemade traps, and around edges of rooms, across doorways. If you spread it in a thick line they will not cross it.
Also, bed bugs dont die as easily as say cockroaches or spiders with the D.E. When i had bed bugs i caught a few and sprinkled it on them and it took 3+ days to kill them once exposed.
Fortunately, I have (thus far) not experienced bed bugs anywhere, but I can definitely attest that placing a few strong-scented dryer sheets in the various nooks and crannies of your house--especially between window panes and under radiators--where insects and spiders tend to hide or congregate does an excellent job of keeping them away.

Here's another insect pest I hadn't even heard of until now:
