This rock-on-occo staircase bannister was originally in what was arguably Montreal's most important building. The building is still in use but for other purposes. Can you name it?
Answer: Kate Mc figured it out. It's the old courthouse, now used as an annex for city hall, where they do finances. It has won architectural awards and whatnot.
the stair to heaven?haha!
ReplyDeleteWas it in the old Stock Exchange building on St-François-Xavier, now Centaur Theatre?
ReplyDeleteNo. But walk about 4 minutes east and you'll find it.
ReplyDeleteThen is it from the old Palais de Justice? It's either that or the Ernest Cormier building.
ReplyDelete(That's unless you're being extremely subtle and arguing that Notre-Dame was originally a church, but is now a tourist trap...)
Yes you got it. It's the old courthouse, now used as an annex for city hall, where they do finances.
ReplyDeleteWhere is it now?
ReplyDeleteThe staircase is where it alwyas has been, in the building on Notur Dayme, next to to City Hall, to the west.
ReplyDeleteI never knew it was the old courthouse until a city bureaucrat insisted it was over a warm Labatt Blue in Chinatown yesterday. I'm taking his word for it although I had hitherto thought that the old courthouse was pretty much where the new courthouse now stands.
