Sadly, Peter Anthony Holder's show has been removed from CJAD. We've always been a great admirer of Holder who has been a delight to listen to on the station for many years and has also been very generous and supportive of our efforts here at Coolopolis Towers. He's a talented guy who also does a lot of voice-over work so we're not worried about his next career step but he'll certainly be missed on the local airwaves. The ongoing local anglo media armegeddon continues unabated. Kevin and Trudie, another afternoon show was also recently cancelled on the same station. Didn't mind Kevin either.
Peter now does a very popular podcast called Stuph File.

A kind and decent man, Peter's presence on the airwaves will be missed.
ReplyDeletespeaking of sucque,
ReplyDeleteI have been listening to Peter Anthony Holder on and off for years and have always enjoyed his style and the work he does. I remember the friday evening old time radio bit he did in the early 90s presenting golden oldies like "the shadow" and replacing him in that time slot with Ricky Cyr was the beginning of the end for CJAD as far as I am concerned.
His being removed from the CJAD lineup is a loss for both CJAD and CFRB.

All I can say is "IT'S ABOUT TIME". I had an email exchange about 3 years ago, with the CJAD program director, about P.A. Holder. I couldn't believe that such a no talent bum could actually have a radio show. The PD said that he thought Holder was great and that "we would have to agree to disagree" ... guess who was right and who was wrong ;)
ReplyDeleteI spent years travelling North America and I have to say that CJAD, with the previous talent, wouldn't have last 5 seconds in a US market. Only reason they survive Montreal is because there isn't a single English radio station to compete with (and they're still failing!!!)
Trudie Mason?? That self important self righteous cow is still there???
I think CJAD should head on over to the east end and hand out mics to the bums. Both the entertainment value and intelligence level would be enhanced.
I wonder if he will return to his other projects: he has some pretty serious TV-writing credits -- quite recently, Canadian Case Files.

What a mistake! Peter Anthony Holder was one of the most intelligent and interesting host of CJAD. He had a program with diverse and interesting topics. He had commedy, literature, special guests, etc., etc. He made callers feel as part of the program. He never brushed off anyone. I would have listened to him even during day hours. What a loss! I will follow him to another station if he does so. I am very dissapointed in CJAD. What is your management thinking!

I am going to miss Peter Anthony Holder. I listened to him for years. I admire his interviewing style, and I could tell that most of the people he interviewed did as well.
ReplyDeleteHe will do very well without CJAD -- he doesn't need that station. I wonder who will take over his former time slot, that old geezer Boxembaum?
Peter was the best thing CJAD had to offer. It was nearly charitable of him to even have tolerated being on that station for so long. He was funny, engaging, and intelligent. For crying out loud, they're replying Tommy's show in the old Holder time slot... it makes no sense at all. How long do they think they can subject us to this...? They are haemorrhaging listeners by the hundreds. People are going to realize that Vermont's VPR is a great alternative (107.9 FM) and no commercials either. And RobertB, you are such a "negative-Nancy". You're a hater, perhaps even a racist and most probably have little or no friends. If you really believe you're pointless phone call to CJAD three years ago had any influence on anything other than coming across as a raving over-opinionated narcissist then you're really a lost cause. "A no talent bum" ??? what exactly is your specialty, may I ask??
ReplyDeleteGood luck Peter!
ReplyDeletePeter was a former schoolmate of mine at Monkland's High School in NDG. Didn't know him personally though (he was class of 75 - one year my senior).
Will miss PAH's late night show (heard the simulcast on CFRB in TO, who also recently released some great talent also!)
ReplyDeleteI was amused that one of the commenters was called racist, as I never realized till today that he was even black... I guess radio can be an equalizer, eh?

When it comes to,the last post which in fact
was a mag in the late 60's a creation of Nick
Auf Der Maur,we never thought the media
would become so niche oriented.Peter might
have treated the listeners to some of his charming
personna.Being a late night ghost to coast, I
would hope that he expose some of his foibles
because a man is not merely here to luxuriate.
Rick Moffat and co.are keen to remove whatever
local input, manipulated by the Ben Dixon's of
Hades,All those who listen to CJAD beyond this
point enter into a fools bargain.
I would sometimes see Peter at night back at the old Monster Gym on Brunswick during what I didn't then but know now were my glory years (late 90's). Funny thing is I didn't know it was him until a few years later. You'd think the CJAD T-shirt he usually wore to the gym might've tipped me off but it didn't, because I had no idea P.A. Holder was black :) because he didn't SOUND black :D (anyone gonna cry racism or is everyone here emotionally balanced enough to understand that describing something doesn't make you a prejudiced racist against that something?).
ReplyDeleteSo good luck Peter, you were one of the voices that made Montreal... Montreal, to me.
Won't call you racist, Mike Mounier, but please tell me: How does a person SOUND "black"??? That you think a color has a sound could lead a person to wonder about whether there might be something horrible living inside you, but I won't make that leap. Ignorant, maybe, but not necessarily racist.
