Save the Trend House!

This house, built in 1954 and highly publicized as the Trend House, now belongs to John Di Genova, a local corporate executive and contains significant historical value, so some really don't want him to get the right to demolish and replace it. It's @ 2 Woodland in Beaconsfield and was a demonstration house for the value of Western woods, as in BC fir and cedar, which tend not to rot.

  1. John Di Genova is a loud mouthed bully, who is intent on destroying the pleasantries of our community, and throwing our heritage down the sewer. Look at the mundane Kirkland industrial park office he inhabits and you can tell what his tastes in buildings gravitate towards.

The Trend house is the West Island's Van Horne house. It is probably the signal cultural property of its decade in Quebec. It is unfortunate that the local community is failing the challenge of appreciating and conserving fine things that make everyones' lives richer.

  3. This was news a couple of months ago. I'm pretty sure Beaconsfield city council granted the demolition permit and the loss of the house is a fait accompli.

The house sits on a large lot. It is now my opinion that the real intent here is to demolish the ouse, subdivide the lot and build two three or four homes on the land. There is nothing but Quebec ministerial action to stop this. I recommend looking at the house on Google earth and similar sites. 'No rational person would ever demolish such a building for a new home for ones parents', particularly given its extremely good condition - more to come.

Hey Guys Settle down. Have you seen the houses in this neighbourhood ? All McMansions , the house no longer fits.Beaconsfield needs all the tax revenue it can garner. There is no industrial tax base. Michael , I respect your endeavours. But this is not a Montreal heritage property.I sold my Montreal home in 2006 , built in 1905 , with stained glass , oak doors , cedar windows , restored immaculate. The buyer tore it dowm, & built a 16 unit condo. I was not really willin to invest 40,000 to to reap minimal rewards. Damn I wish I took the glass though.

Let's move on now, the Trehd House in Beaconsfield is not with us anymore. It was gracefully and painlessly torn down bit by bit. Anew Trend House will emerges hopefully soon. Passing by the site on demolishion day, I was shocked to by the smell and the look of the material taken out. The crawl space under the house was absolute mud base full of water attracting bugs and mildew. I shed a tear and bid fairwell to e Woodland which now will become 501 Lakeshore. Amen!
