Last remaining Overdale building to be saved

Breaking news: the new owners of the mostly abandoned and demolished Overdale block have vowed to preserve and maintain the historic Lafontaine House as well as a green perimeter around it the future, according to Senator Serge Joyal.
Joyal is one of many who has fought for the preservation of the historic building and this latest development is a massive triumph not only for them but for the city of Montreal in general.

  1. Any idea what this building will be used for?

Let's hope it doesn't end up "saved but still abandoned" like the old Westmount train station at the south end of Victoria Avenue with its seldom-used little park.

Remember how everyone screamed about saving that?

  2. Who is the new owner? The city should sue the previous one for the disaster they created.

It's been 10 years since the squatters first took over the Lafontaine house during the 2001 housing crisis, before Mayor Bourque traded them Centre Préfontaine. Bourque then lost the election to Gerald Tremblay, who had opposed the deal and who remains mayor of Montreal today.
