  2. This the corner of DeLorimier and Notre Dame est looking east.  The Governors' house of the Prison (des Patriotes) is the grey stone building  flanked by high walls on the left.  The monument to the fallen patriot is the monument on the right.  The old prison complex is now a part of the siege social of the SAQ.  The monument has been moved closer to the one remaining part of the old stone wall of the prison which contains the Old entrance gate.   This gate was surmounted by a scaffold where thirteen men were judicially murdered in 1837 after a military trial where they were accused of treason, an act which still remains an open wound on the history of Canada.  In the 'seventies, the Prison was to be demolished for an extension of the Ville Marie Expressway - mercifully avoided.   Michael Fish
