The photo was taken in August 1907 from the steps of the old Grand Trunk Railway's Bonaventure Station. Car 824 is eastbound on St. James (Saint-Jacques). The photographer is looking roughly northeast (by Montreal's directional conventions) on St. James from about Windsor (Peel). In those days, Windsor (Peel) ended at St. James and Bonaventure Station stood roughly astride today's Peel between St. James and Notre-Dame with the building partly where the Planetarium is east of Peel and where the old CN Freight Terminal used to be west of Peel.
