NDG trees to be axed for new French elementary school

Oxford just north of Upper Lachine, sad site to see these about nine lovely maples will be cut down, surely as part of the adjacent school construction. If I can find out why this is necessary I'll update the information.

  1. Presumably something to do with them hanging over the construction site. Shame though; trees are always a welcome presence in the city.

  2. I share your concern and lament the unfortunate situation that we are in. Just to clarify: the trees on Oxford street in Saint-Raymond were cut down due to the infestation of emerald ash borers. The school board initially had the permit to remove 3 trees in order to facilitate proper structural development and plant 27 new ones (this was planned); however, when this infestation was discovered, the borough viewed it as necessary, to my understanding, to cut down the trees with the promise to plant new, healthy ones. I am certain that Peter McQueen will intervene in this matter, but rest assured that I will do everything in my power to restore the green space next to our new school.

  3. As a resident on the street across from the new school I was upset to see the trees were cut down. Now that the site is nearly fully constructed I have yet to see new trees being planted not to mention all the space where the green grass use to be has been cemented as well as the back of the school has been newly cemented as a parking lot., so I am wondering where 27 new trees will be planted as promised.
