Recent Montreal shocker: Middle-aged man imprisoned for sexual relationship with girl survivor of abuse

 Recent court documents shed light on a shocking recent case of a young girl who suffered unimaginable abuse throughout her childhood.
  Somewhere in Montreal now lives a young woman in her mid-twenties, who, from the age of eight, endured years of nightmarish mistreatment starting with parental abuse and malnourishment only to be seemingly rescued, at 14, by a middle aged man who beat her and had sex with her for years.
    The victim is referred to only as M.M. in a court document written by Justice Dionisios Galiatsatos signed on 23 August 2019.
   Her tale of woe started when her father died when she was eight.
   Tensions then mounted between the girl and her now-single mother, who drank heavily.
   One day the two disagreed over a Halloween costume and mom brought her to stay with another family.
   M.M.'s new mother-figure also proved cruel and neglectful, calling her names such as "whore" and making her sleep directly on a ceramic floor while keeping her away from loved ones.
   The woman spent all money devoted to M.M. on her other children and threatened to "put her on the streets" if she alerted authorities to her treatment. 
   So when child services and police came by, M.M. - out of fear - reported that all things were fine.
   The girl endured the unfortunate treatment from the age of nine to 14 when Rocco Baldasserre, an acquaintance of the custodian, noticed the mistreatment.
   Baldasserre, 36 years older than the child, was disabled due to childhood polio and lived off disability payments. He suffered abuse as a child and had a deformity in his leg and had survived a trio of heart attacks.
  Baldasserre then moved in with the custodian and her brood, in what he later told court was his secret mission to monitor the extent of the girl's mistreatment.
  Baldasserre, in the fall of 2011, then organized M.M's return to her mother but that didn't work out  as the mother was unwilling to take care of her 14-year-old daughter.
   The girl then moved in with Baldasserre at his one-bedroom apartment.
  She later told a Quebec court that Baldasserre attempted to initiate sex with her several times when she was 14.
   She finally relented after her 15th birthday and had sex with the 50-year-old outside in his back yard near a raging fire.
   From then on Baldasserre would have frequent sex with the young girl and became increasingly controlling.
   He refused to allow her to have a phone and limited her access to friends and family. He'd try to tell her what clothing to wear.
   Baladasserre also ensured that nobody knew that he was conducting an illegal sexual relationship with a minor but some of her former custodian's children started suspecting when they noticed the their feet touching under the table.
   They reported it to school but M.M. denied it to guidance counselors.
   Baldasserre would also frequently hit M.M. and blamed her for his abuse.
   He said it was she who "made him like that" or she who was "playing with his nerves."
   Baldasserre routinely hit the girl on the head and tossed her to the floor and kicked her and hit her with a broomstick, kitchen bowl and even bit her leg.
   Her would call her a "whore" "slut" and "bitch."
   Afterwards he'd routinely proclaim his love for her.
   One day  Baldasserre dropped her off to visit her dying grandmother.
   M.M., now aged 19, told her whole story for the first time to her aunt.
   The family brought her to a police station where she expressed fear for her situation.
   Police interviewed M.M. on 12 July 2017 for two hours. M.M. asked for what she called a "restrictive order" against Baldasserre.
  Baldasserre confessed to authorities that he had sex with M.M. but claimed only to have started after she turned 18. His statements were inconsistent and he was found guilty and sentenced to 75 months in prison last August.
