Front of house restaurant workers today have no idea how good they have it. It's khakis and polo shirts in most places now. My mother worked for a coffee shop called "The Pewter Pot" outside of Boston in the 70's and had to wear an 18th century scullery maids uniform (including a bonnet). I worked for McDonald's in the 80's and was given a single, polyester onesie to wear along with a supply of paper hats. You weren't allowed to change clothes at the restaurant so I had the pleasure of riding the bus in that thing.
