Just 5'9" and 160 pounds with his boots on, this post WWII baby from Ilion, New York was described as a speedster with occasional power, although with a physique like that you'd have to use plenty of imagination if you wanted to see him blastin' taters into the swimming pool beyond right field. He played part time in the outfield for the 'Pos from 70 to 74, never racking up any numbers of note, whereupon he disappeared...Hey Boots! Call us!
Wow, had forgotten about him! Maybe he wasn't a great player but he had a great baseball name!
ReplyDeleteAnd here he is five years ago. Brace yourself: Boots 2002
ReplyDeleteBoots, If you ever read this remember being in the farm league in Rock Hill, South Carolina.. We played put-put - road horses - w/Ken, Gino, and the other guys lived on hamburgers and milkshakes. Had great time - you would have been 20 and I was 16 - watching you play and spending time being young and having all the fun you can have in a summer romance! Thought about you many times!
ReplyDeleteJust had a few beers w/Boots last night in Lancaster, Pa. after a Barnstormers' game. Boots helps in the dugout with Rick Wise (pitching coach) and Von Hayes (manager). What a delight listening to his stories of the game and icons like Don Zimmer. If ever in Lancaster drop me an email (einstein508@verizon.net) and I'll see that you can meet Boots.
