Laurentian Baths, then and now

Ad from an 1893 edition of Montreal's The Daily Witness. X below marks the spot. Nothing there now, but a highway exit and, sometimes, some guy with a paper cup.

And here's a little uh-oh from 22 Aug. of the same year:

  1. I love how the Turkish dept. gives you the "everything included" treatment all for just 75 cents. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I’m pretty sure that those baths used the water pumped from the deep artesian well at this location, where the "Eau the source Laurentien" has been pumped (and still is right now) from for many years.

I also wonder if the nearby Molson brewery has it’s own wells.

In totally unrelated news, here is a picture where the Snowdon (theatre) is visible:

  3. Merci, Jean. It's an amazing pic of the Snowdon Theatre area. I grew up on Dalou Street, just south of the Decarie--Queen Mary intersection. The picture really takes me back 50 years.
    Merci encore

    You are welcome.

I grew up on Queen-Mary road, close to the old private streetcar right-of way between Clanranald and Earnscliffe. The Snowdon theatre sign shape is an important part of my childhood memories.

Speaking of memories, one of my oldest childhood memories was when they demolished the bank at the corner of Queen-Mary & Décarie to make way for the Décarie hole.
