Wow! Thanks. Love those old pics!

Picture #5 is not taken from Sherbrooke@Peel, but Sherbrooke@Mansfield; Peel street is right behind the huge blind wall building. Redpath street is right before the white house behind the giant broccoli on the lower right of the picture.

Picture #6 totally stumps me. It has plenty of elements that ring bells, but not enough to figure out where it is. I’ve been staring at it for 10 minutes, but to no avail.

The slopy thing above/behind the neogothic single-floor building (WTF???) with the natural gas billboard looks very suspicious; it looks like some lame photoshopping attempt to diguise some giveaway item…

Ah, I get it now (took me 30 minutes). It’s Square Victoria. I got it when I recognized the old Marcil Trust building, the white building in the back back background on the left. It’s an unusual angle where you don’t see the queen Victoria statue…

The building in the middle reminded me of the old La Patrie building, but there is no square nearby. Of course, it’s all gone now to make way for Gauvin street and Place Victoria…

On #13, you can see that Victoria street went down all the way to Ste-Catherine. Remember that spiralling underground loading dock entrance for Eaton’s, right west of Victoria at Burnside???

  4. Yesssss! The Kon-Tiki! Gotta love it. What memories I have of that place in the old Mount Royal Hotel (now Les Cours Mont Royal). It had a volcano and served big-ass drinks that had fog coming off of them. :) I had forgotten all about it so thanks for the mammaries.

Alas, the Kon-Tiki Volcano has been long dormant.

I remember having a Southern Comfort and Coke (ugh) in that bar the nite of my hi-school grad dance.
