Terrible story here in Montreal - three young men were killed by a train while writing graffiti Friday night.
Hours of scouring the internet to find out what happened to the three young men between 17-20 who were killed Friday night at 3 a.m. have been largely futile. The trio were trying to study or paint graffiti in a train tunnel when run over by a Toronto train that was running three hours late, but was still traveling at a mere 10 kmh. Two others escaped unharmed. The accident occurred near Notre Dame and Place Turcot in St. Henri. Judging from the comments on a recently posted RIP video, the victims were named some some combination of the following: Jays, Aber, Funk, Seor, Secret Rico, Dylan.
Coolopolis never much understood why people bother doing graffiti but philosophical debates aside, this is a very sad day for people who knew these folks no doubt.

Howdy!
ReplyDeleteThe video was posted in 2009. Did Jays die twice?
Hm. I don't know how many times Jays died. This one is new, with fresh comments but it's from yesterday. Same names, so yeah, good question.

If the CN "Police" were actually doing their job, instead of taking bribes from the Russian mob to infiltrate Taschereau Yard, or if CN wasn't such an arrogant, anti-consumer corporation and spent a few dollars on fences, maintenance to prevent derailments and the loss of wildlife in Alberta lakes, this tragedy might have been averted.
ReplyDeleteWe hardly ever hear of tragedies, derailments, etc., on CP now, do we????
When Warren Buffett resurrects the BNSF-CN merger (since Bill Gates is CN's largest individual shareholder), that will come as a rude surprise to all the slackers at CN who have held jobs for years and count big pensions and fringe benefit packages...at least 35% of CN's current employees will be let go as redundant lard-asses.
Remember the old railroad safety motto: "Any time is Train Time." Those tracks are high traffic, even at night.
ReplyDeleteTrains can be quite quiet. Fences (if the CPR along NDG is any example) are cut by cutters cuttin' shortcuts. Patchwork repairs everywhere.
Even though some taggers are artists, they do degrade our city environment and trains' looks are not improved either. Often important info on the cars are covered by graffs.
I feel sorry for the parents, friends and the most innocent victims of all: the loco engineers. They are always aware of the risks, but wiping out three fellow humans must be life-altering.
Teens out at 0300hrs along RR tracks? Their art is a high risk game. Tuff luk this time. They wanted to be noticed? I'll remember them every time I look across the parking lot at the Bisto on St-Jacques and see Razor's chicken scratch on the cement divider. What a trajedy.

ReplyDeletejays lived and died for his art
Worst of all is to see their parent's recent TV interviews.
ReplyDeleteTruly astonishing to see how in denial they are. According to them, it's always the railway's fault, never mind their kids are out at 3 a.m. in the pouring rain defacing property.
Some parents seem to take vicarious pleasure in their offspring breaking the rules.
High price to pay!
if it was in the pouring rain these kids would not have been out painting, you cannot paint on wet walls. If it truly was raining the group was not painting. if it wasn't raining then don't contribute your opinion when you don't know the facts.
ReplyDeleteClassy guy, eh? You might be delightful at parties. Here young people that you didn't even know died, in circumstances that doesn't impact your life in the slightest, and you've got nothing better to do with your life than talk trash the deceased. You're really tough, dude. I hope you feel better about yourself.
ReplyDeleteWhat you think of these people is irrelevant, so are you grand ideas about train safety. But these people have families, and I sure hope they never read what you had to say about their loved ones.
