Great Harold Rosenberg photos - exclusive to Coolopolis

Just love this 2nd photo from Grace Elliott's funeral in 1973 at St. Remi-de-Napierville. She was Pierre Trudeau's mother. Grace was an anglo, well that is to say her father was a Anglican Scot Loyalist but her mom was a French Canadian. She ended up being an English speaker herself. So Pierre, like Louis St. Laurent and Daniel Johnson had an anglo mom and a franco dad. Pierre's father was a lawyer who had made a ton of money opening gas stations but he was a drinker and gambler and died at age 46 when Pierre was just 15. So mom was a central figure in his life.
These photos courtesy Harold Rosenberg, who snapped them himself.
The photo below shows him as a freelance photo-snapper getting material for an article about Roger Doucet, in the early 70s.

  1. Jean Charest's mom is/was an anglo too. That's where the PQ taunt of calling him "John Charest" comes from.

Trudeau's father also invested in Belmont Park in Cartierville.
