This photo from the city archives that shows the Montreal football fans, apparently in large numbers, celebrating a win from that year. That year, of course saw the city fight home grown terrorists as well during the FLQ crisis. Sonny Wade quarterbacked the team to victory. He competed 51% of his passes in his career and tossed a whole lot of balls into opponents hands. Wow. But he also punted. That seems strange for the QB to be kicking. I wonder if he also cooked the hot dogs at half time. Sonny Wade baby! 1970 baby!
Sonny Wade was one of the strangest athletes of all time in Montreal in that he couldn't start a game and play the whole thing with great intensity. BUT, if the Als were down by 15 points near the end of the 3rd quarter, and Sonny had spent all that time on the sidelines, then all you had to do for the victory was just throw him out there! This was so consistent that my drinking crowd in those days dubbed Sonny The Greatest Bullpen Quarterback Ever, Anywhere!
