This building on St. James near Dominion was the scene of one of the scariest events of 1966.
It's the scene of a massive explosion at the Ohio Chemicals Company at 2535 St. James W.on March 3, 1966. The pop then caused about 20 more secondary explosions thus wrecking the nearby homes of 200 people. The homes, where residents were paying $45 a month, were slated for demolition under Drapeau's slum clearance initiative anyway. Nobody was hurt in the explosions but a strapping young black buck named Phil Foster apparently saved a ton of people, including an invalid.
