Montreal serial killers: William Christenson, aka Bill Owen, 1982

105 Milton is where escaped American serial killer William Dean Christensen, 37, the son of a top CIA official, was living when he killed Sylvie Trudel, 27 of Three Rivers in April 1982 and Murielle Guay, 26, of Laval, in 1982.

They were just two of anywhere from 12 to 30 people that Christensen killed. Many of them were strippers and others were African-American men.
He managed to get away with so much partly because he was given extensive assistance from his overprotective mom and his father, who was one of the founders of the CIA.
Christensen chopped off Trudel's head and dismembered the body, with a circular saw. He left various pieces of the corpse around the apartment at Clark and Milton.
He also murdered Murielle Guay, 26, of Laval, whose body was found dismembered in Mille Iles, northwest of Montreal, decapitated as well, but with less skill, leading authorities to initially believe that it was not the same killer.
Christensen was living on Milton Ave. under the name Bill Owen
after tricking prison authorities into allowing him out on a weekend pass.
According to one account (in the comments below this article) Christensen lived on the fourth floor and partied a couple of times with neighbours and eventually asked if they had a duffel bag he could use. They laughed at the thought of what he was up to, later horrifically realizing that he had indeed body parts to move. (see below)
***
Christensen had spent many years in prison in the States for violent and sex crimes but his parents constantly fought to get him freed, even though he had a terrible temper and authorities suggested he was dangerous.
After serving his time, Christensen fled to Canada after killing a girl in the States
On April 16, 1981 he pleaded guilty to raping a 21-year-old woman in Montreal. The woman reported that he picked her up downtown, drove her to the suburbs and raped her. He was sentenced to three concurrent 18-month sentences.
On April 2, 1982 he was allowed out of prison at Bordeaux even though he had six months left on his sentence. Prison brass admitted he was allowed out by error, so rather than get transferred to face more charge in the United States, Christensen went on a 21-month killing spree.
Authorities had likely been confused by the many names that Christensen employed.
He was given a weekend pass out of prison and never returned.
That's when Christensen got the apartment on Milton and started going out to strip clubs where he found his victims. Reports do not identify the clubs where he found his victims.

He was not immediately caught after the murders and instead drifted down to the States where his parents David H. Christensen and Genevieve Christensen of Bethesda helped him avoid detection.
Christensen then stabbed Michele Angiers, 23, outside of her apartment in atop a bar in Dickson City in northeast Pennsylvania on Sept. 23.  She was known as Sister Sara when she danced at the Oz strip club in Scrnaton. He stabbed her 30 times.
He was calling himself Stanley Holl by then.
He was finally arrested on Dec. 4, 1983 in Philadelphia after he shot a 51-year-old man named Joseph Connelly to death.
He was living in a rundown home that his mom had bought for him using $10,000 cash and her maiden name. The parents, aged 77 and 78, were charged with abetting a fugitive.
His father David was a Mormon from Utah who was a senior police in the US Army during World War II. He was also a top dog at the CIA.
His mother Genevieve was the daughter of a Boston city councillor who was a close friend of the Kennedys.
Their eldest son had died of cancer at the age of 23 and they then transferred their attention and love to their only surviving son.

**
Christensen married in 1966 and had two children, and drifted from job to job.
Christensen's first misdeeds date back to 1969 when he stabbed a woman 19 times. She survived. He pleaded insanity. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
He was paroled after six months, even though the hospital director described him as "a distinct danger to society... disturbed, confused," with "poor masculine identification and some paranoid ideas. Under stress and when threatened this patient can become extremely dangerous."
His parents helped him by hiring the best lawyers they could find.
His wife divorced him in 1972 after he assaulted her and she stayed clear of him after that.
That same year he raped a woman with a friend. He threatened to chop her up with a hack saw. he burned her with a lighter before setting her free. The conviction was overturned after a witness could not be found.
**
Canadian courts never charged him for the two murders after he was sentenced to life without parole for the murder he committed near Scranton.

  1. I think that McGill ghetto bldg. (Milton St.?) has something to do with a cleaver, fridge, and some RS bags.

  2. Isn't this the building on Milton and St-Urbain where they found a murdered woman cut up and put in garbage bags?

    (What's my prize?)

I knew that's where the building was but couldn't find it, when I searched for it.

I went into that penthouse about 15 years ago when the building was for sale, tenant had a huge Doberman that waited until everyone left then came after me when I was the last to leave... I think I peed in my pants a little.

  7. Always interesting to look at other headlines of the day -- the Old Port never took on its potential a la the Rouse Corp. developments in Boston, Baltimore, Jacksonville; a CN train derailed (because of their lack of emphasis on safety); talk of Bryce Mackasey as Ambassador to Portugal (his niece is a Political Attache in Geoffrey Kelley's office)....etc.
