Cornwall undercutting Montreal job market with lower wages

Cornwall has been grabbing jobs from the Montreal area quite a bit lately. The most recent is something like 600 warehouse jobs that have moved on from here to lower paying jobs in that city. The excellent Cornwall Free News got this embarrassing video of a Cornwall Ontario city councillor who purportedly supports organized labour, explaining how she has no qualms about sucking away jobs in Montreal for lower-paying posts in her city.jobs in montreal

How dare they! Leaving Quebec for Ontario so they don't have to pay union wages for minimum wage work or deal with Quebec language laws... The audacity of them!

  2. This sort of thing is happening elsewhere besides Canada.

Australian banks are now importing staff en masse from India and, to add insult to injury, forcing the existing resident staff who had been loyal employees for many years to train them before being let go. The trainees are usually paid about one third the usual wages--which can't say much for the unions downunder! Pretty scary stuff.

Better hope Canadian laws are more stringent than theirs!

More such horror stories to come, to be sure!

OK. A blue collar low wage worker can buy a very nice house or duplex in Cornwall for $65 to $90 thousand dollars. That means a decent credit rating and $5000.00 down lets a worker buy a home. If owning a home is part of your dream, you can't say that about Montreal. So, which city is more worker friendly?
