5516 is the civic number...commercial district...must be 5516 Monkland...the window arches of the apartments in the current Google streetview seem to be the identical concrete truss...
September 12th was a Thursday in 1940 and 1957...and the 1940 Lovell's Directory shows 5514 Monkland as Laura Secord Candy...5516, prior to Salada, was Nord Cleaners & Dyers. RBC was already on Monkland...and locations of all 3 food retailers -- A&P, Dominion, Stop & Shop.

I'm going to guess it's on Sherbrooke in NDG, mostly based on the feeling that it's in one of those brown brick buildings with apartments upstairs.
