This traffic sign in the West End is in French, but not just any French, a French that nobody but a Montreal bureaucrat could truy love.
The phrase "itineraire facultatif" means "optional itinerary." I'm not sure what that means, although it might mean "go this way if you want."
In a world where traffic authorities aim to make signs as simple as possible with basic phrases and pictograms, this sign recalls the golden age of Molieres and for when people spoke the French language real proper-like.

I also think that the city overdid it with their "corridor scholaire" street signs which seem to be on every residential street corner.
ReplyDeleteToo much signage eventually becomes unnoticeable thus defeating the initial purpose.
Yeah, it means you can go that way...if you want. Tres decisif!
ReplyDeleteBeg to differ UrbanLegend. Those fluo signs are hard to get over driving in those neighbourhoods,, even after all these years.
ReplyDeleteRelated, we'll see how many accidents and fatalities the 40kph law will prevent. Or we won't. But more $ for their coffers.
