Nationalism quarrel ends in axe murder

Deux Rivieres, Temiscamingue's only  hotel.
Jean Eurrecoundo, 61, a Frenchman of Basque heritage who had moved to  Temiscamingue, had a weekly routine of heading over to only hotel in Deux Rivieres every weekend to shoot the shit.
He was a big fan of the idea of Quebec independence and would not hesitate to wax enthusiastically about the subject.
On Jan. 27, 1968 he hitched a lift to the hotel with Yvon Rossignol of Riviere du Loup.
The two disagreed on the subject of Quebec nationalism but they did not agree to disagree.
Rossignol hit Eurrecoundo on the head six times with an axe, permanently ending the discussion.
So the independence debate, while usually peaceful, hasn't always been entirely so.
