Treasure in Greene St. basement.

When: Sunday June 15, 1980 at 9:30 a.m

Where: 786 Greene Ave. Cops went into Fred Meilleur's apartment, which he had inhabited for over 40 years.

They searched his home and found $290,000, mostly in $100 bills, buried in plastic bags in his crawl space.

The 80-year-old lifelong welfare recipient said that he had no idea where the money had come from.

But he said that he often allowed John Slawvey to stay at his apartment. The loot was from a Brinks truck robbery. Slawvey had been shot dead by police on Cavendish.
