About five customers smoking Turkish water pipes at the Lux cafe at 1401 Mackay, just north of St. Catherine, were handed $90 tickets by police Thursday night.Police ticketed those who they saw smoking the pipes, while others at the same table not smoking the contraption were not ticketed.
The reason that these tickets were handed out?
The owner apparently does not have the special license required for said shisha pipe device.

The owner apparently told some, or all of those ticketed, that he would pay their tickets, according to the 18-year-old female CEGEP student who received a fine. She has yet to attempt to collect, she told Coolopolis.
It is said that a similar raid took place at the same place a few days or weeks earlier with similar results, although we can't confirm that.
Almost eighty years later and still, these dumb Montreal cops can't get it right. This new generation of cops who chased us off the streets where we were playing hockey while there were only about two cars a day that traveled on Berri street then. They were all really fat guys and no chance for them to catch any in a bunch of really young athletic kids like us.
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. They weren’t such bad guys. They never arrested any of us. I think they just enjoyed the exercise of chasing after us before they went home to their suppers. Montreal policemen are well know for their efficiency.
I would only make fun of them here, where I know many Montrealers, like me, enjoy reading Kristian’s stories about our unique city. Kristian is too young to know about the “fatties” who ran after us right to the side of the side-walks in front of the doors to houses where we lived. They met on the road, after the chase, and would laugh like hell at the antics of all of us.
No, Montreal cops are okay.
