According to the recent 5 th annual Demographia Housing Affordability Study, Montreal's median multiple is 4.6.
Toronto's is 4.8.
What that means at a typical job in Montreal it would take you 4.6 years to pay off your typical house, as measured in medians.
Last year Montreal's median multiple was 3.9. Things got expensiver here. Cape Breton, Thunder Bay, Chatham, Windsor, Moncton were the best deals in Canuckistan.
Vancouver and Victoria were among the most unaffordable cities on the planet.

You think Montreal's bad? You oughta try living here in Kelowna. I make a decent wage and am still paying about 60-65% of my net income toward nothing but rent! To top it off, my place is half the size and 500% more expensive than my beautiful old Mtl. apt. :(
ReplyDeletePlus the girls are hotter in Montreal.
So what are you doing in Kelowna???
ReplyDeleteBack after seven years, I can see why Montreal got more expensive; caline! What is happening around Place des Arts? Saint Henri? Ay! But after the last six months, which I spent in Vancouver in quest of a legendary place of jobs and wonderful weather, I must say that Montreal has not yet known true unaffordability. Not that we shouldn't complain; since when has IGA become an upscale grocery store???
