Dowtown Montreal can now brag that it looks like Grand Forks North Dakota in 1983. The new sports bar on St. Catherine West at the spot that the Pique Assiete Indian restaurant long stood now boasts moving lightbulb signage that appears to have cost owner Peter Sergakis at least 17 bucks at a roadside flea market. In many parts of the city electronic signage of this variety is strictly prohibited but Ville Marie appears to be embracing it.
Grand Forks North Dakota in 1983!!!! Wow! Montreal is really starting to catch up!
ReplyDeleteI love it! For those of us lucky enough to be from Winnipeg, Grand Forks was our premiere location for cross-border shopping (when the dollar was strong enough). Grand Forks is to Winnipeg as Plattsburgh is to Montreal...
ReplyDeleteMontreal used to be electric billboard MECCA. True, this technology seems dated, but I am ALL for electronic billboards in the core. It would really be a return to tradition.
ReplyDeleteerr.. I meant to sat, electric billboard mecca.
ReplyDeletetaaaacky sign.
ReplyDeleteSaint Catherine also used to be a wonderful strip for neon signage. I wish the city had passed some bylaw decades ago preserving that. It would have been a great asset for the city today...
