Yep. Boxleman got it. This is a foto of young Mitsou Gelinas, who along with Cher and Bono crafted a singing career with a single name,
Mitsou.
Back in those heady days of the 80s days she was quite a big deal with her song Bye Bye Mon Cowboy, a secret anthem celebrating the departure of the oppressive English overlords.
Okay, well I'm making that anglo business up.
Mitsou went to MIND High School, which I understand to be pretty much an English school but she also vowed never to sing in English, or perhaps my memory is getting foggy in my dotage. True story: when I worked at Bell Canada there was a flaky young security guard, a likeable young guy who wrote a song for her that got on her greatest hits album. I'd know the title if you told me.
Even though the kid could barely speak two words of English he only wrote his songs in English. Anyway, thanks for playing. See you next time on Quizzzzz Coolopolis!!!
Someone who would have been around 5-8 in 1976 (Olympics swimsuit).

She went to school in Villeray.

Funny, Mitsou was only about a year older than me, and we went to the same high school!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately our paths didn't cross, but only just... I transferred into M.I.N.D. high school in the 10th grade (and her being a year older, it's likely she graduated the previous year).
Actually the year her hit single came out in 1988, was when I started at M.I.N.D. It was at that point I seem to remember teachers and students claiming they knew her. :) Despite the odd name, it was a regular high school...just with a smaller number of staff and students (i.e. you actually knew most students and teachers).
