JACK DENNY and his orchestra during a recording session at the Mount Royal Hotel likely between 1927 and April 30, 1930 when they were the house band for the various bars in the hotel. Legend has it that his career ended when he was irked by being upstaged by his opening act, the drum-intensive Xavier Cugat Orchestra. Denny was known for his lack of brass and experimented with a triple piano sound. He died in 1950.

Thousands of wildly cheering Canadian and American soldiers crowd the spacious decks of the Queen Mary to roar a welcome to New York City, as the giant troop ship eased into her berth amid the clamour of tug whistles and military bands. The "Queen" brought 15,000 American and Canadian soldiers home from the United Kingdom, Wednesday.(Likely 1945)
