Dad, on the left, (Edit: the guy at the left is apparently not Harry Ship, after all, according to his son, but we'll leave it in there temporarily for want of a better photo)... was one of the all-time-big names of his era in Montreal. His sons included the cute guy in the middle who sang for a local band and the one on the right (a more recent photo) who wrote the songs and is really a helluva guy. In an ain't-the-world-small coincidence the guy on the right and another son were attacked by knife by the oft-discussed Tony Mucci once upon a time.CLUE: here is their hit song.
Ok, Yep! It is indeed bookie/gambling king extraordinaire Harry Ship on the left. And then there's Michael Ship, who sang in the band Life. The guy on the right is Neil Ship, who changed his name to Neil Sheppard because he didn't want to be given any favours or discrimination based on the larger-than-life reputation his father enjoyed. Neil penned all the songs for that band, including the one linked to above which charted as a Canadian hit. He moved to New York and became mainly a songwriter but also did some solo pop stuff.
Oh and yeah, he and another brother were attacked by that out of control lunatic Tony Mucci by knife once outside a McGill ghetto nightclub when he was young and says that it was a pretty awful experience. Neil Ship, aka Neil Sheppard wrote me a note once, he's clearly a triple threat: kind, talented and um...good facial hair.
Older man on left is Harry Ship, notorious Montreal underworld member from the 1940's and 50's. Think he built a huge gambling house in those years, somewhere in Cote St. Luc.
